I am a 15-year-old teenage mother. My daughter is now 1 year
old. Bringing her up is very difficult. I went to the welfare office to
try to get some help to raise her. The man at the office told me that
if I couldnt afford to have kids then I shouldnt have had
one. What kind of judgement about my life are these people allowed to
make? I was pissed. He also told me I was too young to receive welfare.
I am too young to get a job. I cant get a workers permit because
you have to be in school. If I could turn back the hands of time I would
have never had a baby. Dont get me wrong, I love my baby, she is
my life now. The Boys and Girls Club Photography project, Reality from
the Barrio has helped us out a lot. Its fun to take pictures
and develop them. I photograph my daughter all the time. I can bring her
to the Club and everyone there loves her and supports me and no one there
has ever passed judgement on me.
